The Basic Rules of Roulette

The roulette table attracts people from all skill levels of gambling. Because it is so easy a game to play, beginners can make their foray into the world of gambling at the roulette table. Because it is also based on a lot of luck and chance, more seasoned gamblers can also derive thrills from the game. If you are a beginner in the world of gambling, there are a few basic rules to playing a game of roulette that you should familiarize yourself with before beginning.

Placing a Bet

Up to eight would-be gamblers can usually place their bets at the roulette table. Each gambler buys into the game with different colored chips. If you do win a dividend after a spin, you can take your winning cash chips to the casino’s front desk or other designated area to exchange the chips for actual cash.

Players can place their bets on any number, color, or combination. It is important to know that you can bet right up until the ball drops. At this point the croupier will usually make a signal or gesture and alert the gamblers that no more bets will be taken. New bets can begin after a dolly is placed on the winning number, the losing bets are swept away, and the winning bettor is paid his cash chips.

In the game of roulette, you can win if the ball lands on or around your chosen number or numbers. You must follow the rules of etiquette, however, and bet only when the croupier is accepting wagers. After a round is finished, wait until the table is cleared and for the croupier’s signal before betting again. It is easy to get caught up in the excitement of the game, as the game can be fast-paced after the ball is dropped.

Beginners following these basic rules of the game should have no problem getting their feet wet with gambling. It is a good idea, though, to check with the house to make sure they do not have any additional rules for you to follow at their roulette table.
