| Betting in the Game of Roulette
Playing the game of roulette is quite simple for many players. Just about anyone can enjoy placing a wager in the game and watching the ball drop and spin. One of the things that makes roulette such an attractive game to so many people is that there are a large variety of ways in which a player can bet. Some bets may mean you risk more money for a bigger payout, while other bets offer less of a risk but-perhaps to some gamblers-less of a thrill.
Placing a Bet
Players who are new to the game or who do not wish to risk all of their money may want to make an outside bet. In roulette, an outside bet is one that involves any thing outside of the approximately 38 numbers on the roulette wheel. This can mean a player can bet on all one color, either red or black. Or, he could bet on odds or evens. Betting on this larger scope of numbers most assuredly is more stable than placing a single bet. However, if you do win, your payout will be much less than the approximately 35 to one payout ratio of winning a single bet. Placing an outside bet is a great way to start off a game, especially if you are a beginner, but otherwise you may wish to stick to more risky bets with higher chances for payout.
If you do choose to go with a more risky bet, you may have a few different options. A straight-up bet carries the most risk, but it also has the greatest dividends if you do win-and people do win at straight-up bets on occasion. A straight-up bet is simply placing a wager on one number of the wheel. Whichever number that might be depends completely on your personal preference. Or, you may wish to bet on special numbers or a combination of numbers. A corner bet involves betting on four different numbers. In a corner bet, you place your chips at the intersection of four numbers. While the payout for this type of bet is less than that for a straight-up bet, it is still more than the payout for an outside bet.
Some players may wish to place a bet on five numbers, in which case they would be on zero, double zero, one, two, and three. Again, the payout is less, but the risk is also less.
